Almanza Project for the War of Spanish Succession in the Peninsular

The idea was the refight the Battle of Almanza (25 April 1707) during the War of Spanish Succession.

This was a bit of an experiment for me, being 6 mm and all, and being my first “gun” period. 6 mm is easy to paint, but not as satisfying on the table top. Guns can be fun.

Rules

My own Twilight of the Sun-King rules. I also have a scenario for the Battle of Almanza.

Armies

I’ve got both the Franco-Spanish and Anglo-Portuguese armies for the Battle of Almanza scenario.

Scale

6 mm. These are my only non-15mm figures so are quite a novelty. It was an experiement. I found them easy to paint but it wasn’t worth getting a full dupicate set of terrain to match.

Figures

Heroics and Ross – I think.

Basing

The troops are based on 40 by 20 mm DBA style elements. Each element will have one of the following:

  • 16 foot in two ranks (French, Spanish, Portuguese)
  • 12 foot in two ranks and a battalion gun and crew (Anglo-Dutch)
  • 6 horse in line
  • 1 artillery piece and crew – gun aimed at short end of element.
  • 1 artillery limber or supply wagon

The generals are based differently. All are on 20 by 20 mm bases, with three levels of command being represented by having 1, 2 or 3 figures on the base.
