Commercial Wooden Buildings for 15mm Wargaming

A variety of 15mm (1/100th) scale commercial Wooden Buildings I’ve picked up over the years. The painting approach is described in Painting Wooden Buildings.

Kerr & King

Kerr&King sell a village pack for the Eastern Front (KK-171 City in a Box: Russian Kolkhoz). Quite nice it is too. A good variety of buildings. Ample room for stands to fit inside. Very attractive once painted. And as a bonus for me … very compatible with other buildings I already had. With this range available there is little need to make more of my own.

Iron Clad Miniatures

Iron Clad Miniatures also produces a range of Eastern Front buildings – they are a mix of wooden and plastered. Generally smaller than Kerr & King and my own buildings they are none-the less still compatible, and quite nice. So I got one (15-H4 Eastern Front house) to be the Hetman’s house within my village.

Military Miniatures

My first wooden buildings were from the old Military Miniatures range crafted by Mark Strachan. Given Military Miniatures morphed into BattleFront I assume they still have the range – certainly a lot of the models appear in their photos – but they don’t seem to sell them at the moment.

Mark’s range is great but with only one defect from my perspective: the buildings are solid. For Crossfire it is much more convenient if you can put the stands inside the buildings and with these models you can’t.

The photo shows a mix of American Civil War (ACW), Celtic and Maori buildings. Despite their nominal period they’re all more or less suitable for the Eastern Front. The ACW buildings, with the exception of the large white house at the back, are most suitable. The triangular Celtic buildings at the left and the small, partially buried, Maori Whare at the right are less suitable.
