Different nationalities had different chariot configurations:

  • Syrian: LCh. Two man crew with driver and archer (LCh)
  • Anatolian: LCh. Two man crew with driver and javelin or spearman (LCh)
  • Early Hittite, Arzawa, Masa and Pitassa: LCh. Different nationalities adopted either the Syrian/archer or Anatolian/spearmen configuration.
  • Late Hittite, Arzawa, Masa and Pitassa: HCh. Three man crew with driver, shieldless spearman, shield bearer; both of the latter with spears. However according to FoG the three man crew concept is no longer accepted by authorities. They now believe the depiction of three men in the chariots at Kadesh was the two crewmen plus a chariot runner hitching a ride. And the current thinking seems to be that the two javelinmen was actually an archer and javelinmen like the Syrians, with the javelinman as a chariot runner I guess.

“Syrian” includes Canaanites, Phoenicians, Retennu, Amorites (Amurru) and Kharu.

This list corresponds to the following Field of Glory army lists:
