DBA II/72c Suevi 250AD-584AD

The Suevi are covered by DBA army list II/72c Suevi 250AD-584AD, an option within II/72 Early Frankish, Alamannic, Quadi, Suevi, Rugian or Turcilingi. They were part of the general chaos during the Fall of the Western Roman Empire and ended up in Iberia. This post is part of my series on Troop Identities in DBA Army Lists.

II/72c Suevi 250AD-584AD

Ag: 2

Forest until 406 AD then Arable.

  • 1 x 3Kn (Gen) [Nobles]
  • 8 x 4Wb [Warriors]
  • 2 x 3Bw [Massed Archers]
  • 1 x 2Ps [Archers, Javelinmen]

Questions:

  • Why does this army have less Nobles than other Germanic tribes in the same area?
  • Who are the massed archers? In the equivalent list in Field of Glory, only the Alammani get massed archers. Interesting although I don’t know why.
  • Why forest topology in the early period when other Germanic tribes have Arable for the duration? For example Early Vandals and Early Visigoths are Arable for all periods from 200 AD.
  • Why a lower aggression than other Germanic tribes? For example Early Vandals and Early Visigoths are Ag 3.
  • Why does this long list of Germanic peoples – Frankish, Alamannic, Quadi, Suevi, Rugian or Turcilingi – get lumped together but other Germans are made distinct?

This list corresponds to the following Field of Glory army lists:

  • Early Frankish, Alamanni, Burgundi, Limigantes, Quadi, Rugii, Suebi or Tercilingi (Legions Triumphant) – Specifically Suebi
