Very, very draft painting guide for the Arab-Israel Wars.
Painting Guide
Painting wargaming figures is a key part of the wargaming hobby so I’ve a collection of painting guides, photo galleries and uniform guides to help out.
WW2 Painting Guide: Russian / Soviet Infantry
This is my WW2 Painting Guides for Soviet Infantry. I was puzzled by Soviet Infantry uniforms of World War II for a while because two mates of mine, Roland and Ian, both of whom know their stuff, painted Russians in completely different colours. Apparently this is okay.
Painting Guide for Aztec and Texcalan Shields
This page covers the shield designs of both Aztecs and Texcalans (Tlaxcalans). The list below is not comprehensive and I recommend you look at the painting guides for Aztecs and their enemies for other shield patterns, or go straight to the Codices for more ideas. The nahuatl for shield is “chimalli”.
Paul Mitchell’s 6mm Gallery for the War of Spanish Succession
Paul Mitchell kindly sent me pictures of his 6mm War of Spanish Succession figures. Paul didn’t mention it but I assume these figures are based for Volley and Bayonet or Grande Armee.
Paul Mitchell Gallery of 28mm First Carlist War Figures
Paul Mitchell kindly sent me some photos of his 28mm Carlists. These are the models now produced by QRF Miniatures (ex Helion ex Valiant). In fact this is the unit described at the Battle of Oriemendi as ‘wearing blue berets and grey greatcoats… except officers, who wore all colours’. Paul has painted them with captured Cristino greatcoats, drummers cut down to shell jacket, the firing figure in a Cristino shell jacket, the ensign in Cristino frock, and the officer at the back in a captured French uniform. They are Guipuzcoan, and will form part of the 3 – battalion Guipuzcoan brigade at Oriemendi. The flag is hand painted.
Steven’s Russian Rifle Battalion
Once I had my Grenadiers of the Spanish Blue Division I had to get somebody to fight them. Russians of course, and the default unit is a Rifle Battalion. And of course this is for Crossfire.
Steven’s Blue Division Battalion
The Spanish Blue Division is what got me into WW2. Officially the 250th Infantry Division of the Wehrmacht and comprising Spanish Volunteers, this unit was also know as the Spanish Volunteer Division, Division Azul, or the Blue Division. They are Spanish, of course, but I use them as Germans when needed.
Huge Crossfire Table at the Shed
For a couple of years I wargamed at The Shed. These guys specialise in multi-player games on a big table. They play all sorts of game systems but for most of the time I was there they played Crossfire. The table at the Shed is 14′ x 6.5′, which in Crossfire terms is quite big. The table, as you’ll see, absorbs a lot of terrain. Thanks to Vince for sending through the photos.
WW2 Painting Guide: Early-Mid War Spanish and Germans
My WW2 Axis figures are early-mid War Germans but actually represent the Spanish Blue Division. To be honest the only distinguishing feature is the Spanish flag patch on their right shoulder; otherwise wore standard German uniforms. This is one of my WW2 Painting Guides
Ian Galley’s WW2 Gallery
Thanks to my mate Ian Galley who sent me some photos to liven up my pages. Ian likes Russians so you’ll see a lot of Human Wave shots. By the way, Ian’s figures are based for Flames of War – the dominant WWII rule set in NZ at the moment.
