I wanted to try out the Mapless Campaign system with our armies from the Britannia 600 AD Campaign and convinced Mike Lowery and Chris Harrod to give it a go.
Player | Player Nation | Army List | Initial Territories |
---|---|---|---|
Chris Harrod | Alba | Picts | Farmland, Plains, Mountain Pass |
Mike Lowery | Northumbria (North Angles) | Saxon | Pasture, Farmland, Wastes |
Steven Thomas | Strathclyde | Welsh | Mountain, 2 x Wastes |
Nominally there is one battle per year.
Mapping the wilderness
As you will notice from the image some of us demand a map … Chris whipped this one up to show the events to date.
600 AD: Northumbrian (Mike) beat Pict (Chris)
Mike’s Northumbrians decisively beat the Picts. Both players decided to use all three of their territory cards. Chris deployed a large wood, a gentle hill and a town (which didn’t come into play). Chris pushed his riders onto the hill out ahead of the main host, however a combination of the Northumbrian Hero and archers dealt with them rapidly. As the main battle lines clashed Mike’s hero rolled up the Pictish left flank where the Pictish nobles had been. It was a comprehensive victory and Mike lost no troops during the battle.
New Territory Cards: Forest x 2, Town

Mike Lowery | Northumbria (North Angles) | Saxon | Farmlands x 2, Plains, Wastes, Mountain Pass |
601 AD: ??
Unfortunately Mike promptly left for New Zealand and we didn’t continue this project.
