RPG
I played Role Playing Games (RPG) solidly for about 15 years from my early teens. My favourite rules were The Fantasy Trip and its descendent Gurps. Simple and flexible. That said my taste in RPG mechanics has got simpler and simpler. I’m currently intrigued by Fudge RPG and its descendent Fate RPG. Both are available on-line for free. Both emphasise story telling over game mechanics. Place of Reeds is a setting for a role playing campaign in Mesoamerica. The main city is called, not surprisingly, the Place of Reeds, and is nominally the historical city of Teotihuacan.
Overview of Fudge RPG
Fudge RPG is a rules-light role-playing game engine. As an engine it provides a common set of game mechanics that can be used to create any role-playing game the Game Master (GM) desires. Fudge uses a simple word-based system for handling action and combat resolution, which makes the game fast-paced and easy to play.
Fudge Points Based on Fate Points
In Fudge RPG Fudge points are a formal mechanism to allow players to “just fudge it!”. Fudge RPG has some recommendations for how Fudge points are gained and how they can spent. Fate RPG takes the concept further with its Fate points. Here is my take on what a more Fudge would look like with some of the Fate point mechanisms used for Fudge points.
