Stalingrad Ruins from Warbases are Great Value

Every time I order anything from Warbases I order a set of their 15mm Stalingrad Buildings. They are great value. For £7 I get two buildings that are robust, can be assembled in two configurations and, when used en-masse, give me variety of town layouts.

Here is what they look like en-masse:

From the pack

Warbases have two Stalingrad buildings in 15mm. Each has four walls and a base. Both features are 100mm wide and 74mm deep. You can see from the first photo that the two buildings include the same wall feature; the shorter wall of Building A and the taller wall of Building B. That means they butt together perfectly.

Stalingrad Building A is 100mm wide x 74mm deep x 115mm high.

Assembled

It takes only a couple of minutes to glue them together. You’ve got a choice of two configurations: (1) tall wall at the right or (2) tall wall at the left. The buildings in the photos are tall wall at the right.

Undercoated

I alway undercoat in black. In the first photo I’ve added some rubble to the floor of the buildings.

Then I painted over the rubble in black. You could, of course, avoid some of that. Either glue in the rubble before undercoating or don’t undercoat the rubble.

Brick Base colour = Monarch

The paints I use for my ruins are:

  1. Black
  2. “Flat Earth” Dulux 80YR14140 Extra Deep W45 — for ground only
  3. Dulux Monarch — for brick and brick dust
  4. Dulux Brick Red — for brick and brick dust
  5. Dulux Toasted Terracotta — for brick and brick dust
  6. “Dark Sand” Dulux 23YY48254 Medium W45 — everywhere
  7. “Pale Sand” Dulux 40YY75216 Light W45 — everywhere

The next photos are when the Flat Earth and Monarch are painted. Monarch gives the walls quite a violently red colour. This will fade.

Brick Red

The next colour is Brick Red. You’ll see that the violent colour of Monarch is toned down a lot.

I’ll leave out the other colours in the process.

Completed

Here are the completed buildings. I’ve got 12 buildings from Warbases i.e. six sets of two. Half of the buildings are the configuration with the tall wall to the right and the other half with the tall wall to the left.

For the photos I’ve organised the buildings into four possible layouts: (1) Four buildings in a square; (2) Tall buildings on the outside of the line of four; (3) Tall buildings on the inside of a line of four.

  1. Amazing stuff, well done! I didn’t even know about Warbases’ Stalingrad range – I’ll make sure to pick some up next time I see Martin at a show.

    • Let me rephrase that … Steven had to buy laser cut MDF to get models that compare to the Doctor’s hand cut models. Says a lots. 😉

  2. Nice work! Hard to tell from the pictures but would they work with 20mm? I’m always looking for new options and these look fine.

  3. I asked warbases to make these buildings in 20mm they did as of 10/6/2017 the cost for A is 6 pounds and for B 7 Pounds they look great and fit in better with my other Stalingrad buildings they play better with my 15mm troops as well.
