Steven’s Poorly Armed Mob for the Portuguese Colonial War

The early part of the Portuguese Colonial War saw a wave of poorly armed UPA men cross the border into Angola and go on the rampage. Cantanas (otherwise known as patangas or machetes), spears and home made guns were used extensively. I like the idea of putting together such a “mob”.

So far I’ve only done a single poorly armed “combat group”. Two commanders and four stands.

The commanders are both converted Peter Pig Fuzzy Wuzzy Heroes from the Sudan range – one with a sledge hammer and one with a pistol. I added trousers.

The fighters are a mix of figures from Peter Pig. Naked spearmen from the Pirates range with trousers added. Machete wielding guys from the pirates range. Ansar spearmen and swordsmen from the Sudan range. And more Fuzzy Wuzzy Heroes from the Sudan range. And a couple of bare headed artillery crew from the AK47 range. The majority figure were the Machete mob.

  • 10-29 Machete Mob
  • 22-03 SUDAN Dervish barehead
  • 22-55 SUDAN FW heroes
  • 17-18 Militia bareheaded Crew
