This scenario is in the Liberators book (Fletcher, 2005, p. 66-67). These are my notes for playing the scenario with the Liberators HOTT.
Map
Setting: Maipo, South of Santiago, Chile; 5 Apr 1818
The original map is 4′ wide and 6′ deep. The Liberators HOTT table is 2′ x 3′.
Order of Battle
I’ve adapted the order of battle for Liberators HOTT.
Liberators HOTT Order of Battle
- Patriots
- 1 x Cavalry General @ 2
- 11 x Infantry @ 2
- 6 x Cavalry @ 2
- 1 x Hero (Commander of Horse Grenadiers or Lt. Col. Freire) @ 4
- 3 x Artillery @ 4
- AP = 52; Break Point = 26
- Royalists
- 1 x Cavalry General @ 2
- 8 x Infantry @ 2
- 5 x Cavalry @ 2
- 1 x Hero (Lt. Col. Ordonez) @ 4
- 1 x Hero (Col. of the Burgos Battalion) @ 4
- 2 x Artillery @ 4
- AP = 44; Break Point = 22
Victory Conditions
Normal HOTT victory conditions apply, i.e. destroy half the enemy AP.
The onus is on the Patriots to attack. So if neither side destroys the enemy army by inflicting AP losses, then the Royalists win.
Scenario Specific Rules
Use my Liberators HOTT Rules including “Straight HOTT” and these recommended house rules:
- Better artillery
- Infantry column
- Infantry square
- Attachable Generals – if you need them
Note: there are no “mobs/hordes” in this scenario so you don’t need the house rule “Dead hordes are dead”.
