Aztec History

Almere Read, K, and Gonzalez, J. J. (2000). Mesoamerica Mythology: A Guide to the Gods, Heroes, Rituals, and Beliefs of Mexico and Central America. Oxford University Press.

Bray, W. (1968). The Everyday Life of the Aztecs. NY: Dorset.

Davies, N. (1973). The Aztecs. Macmillan.

Davies, N. (1982). The Ancient Kingdoms of Mexico. Penguin.

I’ve read this a couple of times and enjoy it. He covers Olmecs, Teotihuacan, Toltecs and Aztecs. And he manages to pack quite a lot in and have a readable style.

Duran, D. (1964). The Aztecs: The History of the Indies of New Spain. London: Casselll

Fray Diego Durán finished his book in 1581 and it is one of the key sources from early colonial Mexico.

Gendrop, P. (1972). Ancient Mexico. Editorial Trillas.

This book has dual English and Spanish text. It has a nice summary of the early civilisations.

Miller, M., & Taube, K. (1993). An Illustrated Dictionary of the Gods and Symbols of Ancient Mexico and the Maya. London: Thames & Hudson.

Soustelle, J. (1961). Daily Life of the Aztecs On the Eve of the Spanish Conquest. Stanford University Press.

Townsend, R. F. (2000). TThe Aztecs. hames and Hudson.

Vogel, S. (1995). Teotihuacan: History, Art and Monuments. Moncem Ediciones.

This is a tourist style booklet I picked up at Teotihuacan.
